Join Shut Up and Write Tuesdays This Summer
Do you need to make headway on a writing project this summer?
Join the CFDE—virtually or in-person—for Shut Up and Write Tuesdays. A growing international community of practice, Shut Up and Write Tuesdays is a great way for writers to structure their time, boost their productivity, and connect with others.
Shut Up and Write Tuesday is EVERY TUESDAY at 11 am—live at Kaldi's or virtually via Facebook or Twitter!
The formula is simple:
- On the first and third Tuesdays at 11 am, we gather at Kaldi Coffee on the Emory campus in the DUC
- Or connect via Twitter or Facebook
- We write in silence for an hour, and catch-up either online or over coffee afterwards
- We begin by writing for 25 minutes, then we take a 5-minute break to check in, write for 25 more minutes, then take a few minutes at the end to catch up.
For academic types who have embraced the idea, it’s a great way to carve out dedicated writing time and make progress on thesis chapters, journal articles, and grant applications. While an hour doesn’t sound like much, it’s amazing what you can get done if you really focus. The discipline and shared sense of purpose that comes from writing with others also keeps you accountable and reminds you that you aren’t alone. By engaging with your hosts and the other participants, you have an opportunity to connect with an international network of academics and be part of a thriving community of practice.
To participate in person, just come join us at Kaldi Coffee in the DUC!
To participate virtually on Facebook, join the CFDE-organized Facebook group.
To participate virtually on Twitter, respond to the @SUWTues / @SUWTUK / @SUWTNA tweets with information about what you’re working on and the progress you made during the session. Be sure to use the hashtag #suwtues / #suwtuk / #suwtna so others can see you, cheer you on, commiserate, and offer advice.
