Atlanta Studies @ Emory

Tuesday, March 28, 2017 • 11 am to 1 pm

Jones Room (3rd floor) of the Robert W. Woodruff Library

The Emory Center for Digital Scholarship, in collaboration with the Emory Center for Faculty Development and Excellence and The Bill & Carol Fox Center for Humanistic Inquiry, will host a discussion of the research platforms, projects, and publications about Atlanta that are currently facilitated by the Emory Center for Digital Scholarship. Lunch will be provided.

This event will begin with presentations on two exciting digital platforms for Atlanta-based research that Emory has helped develop in cooperation with GSU: ATLmaps and Unpacking Manuel’s Tavern.

Then we will turn to discussions of two exciting current digital research projects about Atlanta that are at radically different points in their development: Christina Crawford’s (Art History) “Interwar Housing Interplay: Plotting Atlanta on the Interwar-New Deal Housing Map” and Anjulet Tucker’s (Office of the President) “Let’s Go To Work”: The Spread of Chicago Steppin in Atlanta.”

Finally, the event will conclude with a roundtable about the local context for digital scholarly publishing. This roundtable will be moderated by Allison Adams (CFDE) and will feature the following participants:

  • Sarah McKee (Senior Associate Director for Publishing at the Fox Center for Humanistic Inquiry, former Managing Editor of the New Georgia Encyclopedia)
  • Allen Tullos (Founder and Senior Editor of Southern Spaces, Co-Director of Emory Center for Digital Scholarship)
