Follow-Up Academic Learning Community on Online Learning: Lessons Learned from Coursera

The Center for Faculty Development and Excellence is working with the Office of the Provost to organize a follow-up session of the Academic Learning Community on Online Learning we hosted back in the fall, now that we have been through the exercise of developing and executing a couple of Coursera courses.
Faculty, administrators, and staff who have developed and presented Emory's first Coursera courses will discuss the process and lessons learned, and they and others will be available to answer questions about what is involved in a Coursera course development.

  • Steve Everett, Director of CFDE, Professor of Music, Instructor for Emory's first Coursera Course, Digital Sound Design
  • Kimbi Hagen, Assistant Professor, Rollins School of Public Health / Behavioral Science & Health Education, and Instructor for Emory's second Coursera course, AIDS
  • Lee Clontz, Lead Multimedia Developer in Faculty Services of University Technology Services, tech support provider for Emory Coursera courses

Academic Learning Community: Online Interactive Education at Emory - Fall 2012

Online education has made a rapid advance into major research institutions in the past year. This Academic Learning Community spent four sessions discussing Emory's agreement with Coursera, existing online and blended courses of study at Emory, the technologies available to Emory faculty, other third-party platform providers, and the broader implications of online learning and these quickly evolving technologies for faculty, students, and the world of academe globally.

This Academic Learning Community will meet in ECIT 217 The Jones Room of the Woodruff Library (note new location!) on the following dates:
