Susy Wekesa
Susy Wekesa is a visiting scholar in residence in the CFDE for 2024-25. She teaches at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology in Kenya. She joined the university in 2011 as a tutorial fellow. She teaches both undergraduate and postgraduate students. Some of the specialty courses she handles include human resource management, industrial and employee relations, career management and development, organization behavior and management practice. She has successfully supervised over twenty post graduate students and published with them in peer reviewed journals. All the articles she has authored can be found on Google Scholar. She is passionate about leadership and has written journal articles on servant leadership. She has served the university in several other capacities. Most recently, she was the post graduate coordinator in the Department of Entrepreneurship, Technology, Leadership and Management (2020-2023). She was also the chairperson of the same department (2016 – 2018). Prior to her appointment as the chairperson, she served the department as the examination officer (2013 – 2016).
Susy has vast teaching experience, having started her teaching career as a secondary school teacher with the Teachers Service Commission of Kenya and doubling as Head of Department (Languages). She has also taught as an adjunct lecturer at the University of Nairobi, Moi University, and Kenya Methodist University. While teaching at the University of Nairobi, she wrote a module entitled “Psychology of Human Development” that is used for teaching undergraduate students pursuing Bachelor of Education degree.
Susy is passionate about helping humanity by striving to alleviate poverty in all its forms. She currently sits on the board of LoveInc (Jogoo Road Zone), a non-denominational organization that seeks to mobilize churches in order to transform lives and communities. She has supported several needy students to go through school successfully and they are now independent.
Susy holds a Ph.D in human resource management from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (2015), a master's in education administration from Kenyatta University (2004), and a bachelor of education from Kenyatta University (1990). Her thirst for knowledge and continuous improvement has brought her to the Center of Faculty Development and Excellence at Emory University as a visiting faculty. She hopes to hone her pedagogical skills and help to enhance the teacher/learner experience at her department when she gets back home.
