Faculty in Rollins School of Public Health and throughout Emory are involved in implementation design, rigorous program evaluation, and the development and dissemination of research to improve and scale programs and support policy formation in public health. These activities encompass “Implementation Science,” a field that broadly encompasses the rigorous study of methods for documenting project and program planning, design, and roll-out; process and impact evaluation; and translation of research into practice. “Evaluation science” includes understanding the myriad methods that can be used to assess implementation effectiveness within different contexts.

This Academic Learning Community aims to develop Emory’s strategic advantage in evaluation and implementation sciences (E&IS) in public health and establish Emory as a preeminent place for evaluation and implementation sciences research.

Academic Learning Communities are informal seminars that are intended to:

  • engage faculty in collaborative explorations of innovative research and teaching topics;
  • bring guest speakers to campus to enhance the curriculum and learning; and/or
  • help disseminate important research discoveries and innovative learning strategies to the broader community.

Particulars:

The Seminar will meet on the following dates:

  • 9/14 (Thursday 12-1:00pm): Invited talk by Josh Rosenthal (NIH Fogarty): (8030 Claudia Nance Rollins (CNR) known as Klamon Room)

  • 9/15 (Friday 8:30-10:00am): – CNR 2001 –  Breakfast discussion with Josh Rosenthal

  • 10/12 (Thursday 12:00-1:30pm): CNR2001

  • 11/14 (Tuesday 12:00-1:30pm): CNR2001

  • 12/12 (Tuesday 12:00-1:30pm): CNR2001

  • Proposed output for the Academic Learning Community is to support research and training and enhance cross-disciplinary learning in the area of evaluation and implementation sciences with a focus on methodological development, advancement, and execution, transcending topical expertise within the RSPH and Emory community.

  • Each meeting will balance presentations by a facilitator or invited speakers with group discussions of pertinent readings and presentations by seminar participants.

  • Suggested readings will be posted on Canvas prior to the session, and/or will be made available separately.

  • Up to 20 participants will be accommodated and will include both faculty and graduate students from across the university.

Selections will be announced in early September. A limited number of spaces will be reserved for graduate students based on the relevance of their research to the topic.
