Community Engagement and "Broader Impacts" for STEM Fields
In 2020, the CFDE Engaged Learning Program, in partnership with Science ATL, offered this workshop on best practices of community engagement and related “broader impacts” activities for STEM faculty and students.
This workshop is designed to give members of science labs and other science academicians tools for engaging with community partners, especially partners in Atlanta. If your laboratory is already engaged in outreach, this workshop can help laboratory members think more effectively about their outreach activities.
Topics covered
- Goals of “broader impacts” aspects of major science grants and overlap with community engagement
- Brief orientation to Atlanta and place-based community engagement
- Best practices of working with community partners such as Science ATL
- Orientation to Science ATL programs and engagement with Atlanta communities and organizations
- Science communication with public audiences
