Spring 2016 CFDE Writing Groups: Actual and Virtual

Of the nearly 50 faculty who enrolled in ten CFDE writing groups program this year, ten of them opted into one of two "virtual" groups that will never actually meet in person.

One of the virtual groups will work as an email writing "accountability" group. Every other Friday, the five group members email a check-in to report on their writing goals and progress over the last two weeks.

The second virtual group will meet every two weeks over Google Hangout, an online platform that allows for a real-time group video chat. The members will read one another's work and offer comments and feedback.

Of the other eight CFDE writing groups launched this semester, two will meet weekly and six will meet every two weeks. Five will read one another's work and discuss it during the meetings, while the other three will simply gather for some unstructured writing time and informal discussion.

The groups range in size from three members to seven members.
