Conceiving Deafness: The Power of Narrative

Rachel Kolb is an English PhD student at Emory, whose work focuses on formations of deafness, disability, and communication in American literature and culture. Her talk will examine the stories we tell about varying experiences of communication, and will consider how those narratives shape our expectations and understanding of deafness and disability.
This event is hosted by the CFDE as part of the university course “Disability, Resilience, and the Mortal Self.”

Living the Plant-Strong Life
Public talk by Rip Esselstyn

Rip Esselstyn is a former firefighter and world premier triathlete. He introduced his passion for a whole-foods, plant-based diet to Austin's Engine 2 Firehouse, and then more broadly through his bestselling books, The Engine 2 Diet and Plant-Strong. Currently Rip is a Healthy Eating Partner with Whole Foods Market, promoting the connection between a plant-based diet and good health.
