Fall 2020 Zoom Class Engagement Workshop Series

These workshops are being run to provide extra support as you plan engaging learning activities to use in your Zoom class session.There are several facilitators, as noted below, so we should be able to provide one-on-one feedback as needed. 

Please plan to come with an idea in mind and a class session that you’d like to work on developing.

Working Session Structure

  • Overview of tool/method: ~20 minutes
  • Independent planning time/Questions for facilitators: ~10 minutes
  • Share idea with partner and try to finalize plans -can leave to test in own Zoom instances if needed (“boomerang style”): ~20 minutes
  • Everyone comes back to main session – final questions/comments/sharing ideas: last 10 minutes

Target Audience

Faculty, staff and students who are currently using Zoom to facilitate classes or workshops and would like extra guidance developing and implementing their ideas.

Workshops

Large Class Engagement  in Zoom

This working session will go over the tools that you can use for large class engagement and give you time to work on developing a few activities for your large class. Activities include using the reaction icons, polling/surveys, and annotations.

Class Discussions in Zoom

This working session will go over strategies you can use to facilitate large class and small group discussions (e.g. hand raising, breakout rooms) effectively in Zoom and give you time to work on a lesson plans involving discussions during a Zoom session.

Exam Review Games in Zoom

Ready to put a little fun into your Zoom session in preparation for the big exam? This session will go over how to effectively run a team trivia/Quizzo style review session using breakout rooms. Start thinking about some trivia questions ahead of time, and we will give you time to experience and work out how you can run your game in class.
