Leadership Academy

The CFDE Leadership Academy is designed to help faculty consider leadership strategies and approaches that can support them at any point in their career.

Academy Objectives

  • To provide accessible leadership professional development opportunities to faculty at Emory
  • To collectively examine research-based approaches and strategies around leadership
  • To consider what it means to be a leader in both formal positions and everyday situations. What does it mean to lead from where you are?
  • To build a community of learners and leaders

See Leadership Certification below for additional program information.

Leadership is Listening Community of Practice

This year’s Leadership is Listening Community of Practice will listen to the discussions between Drs. Brené Brown, University of Houston, and Adam Grant, University of Pennsylvania, about Dr. Brown’s new book on leadership, Strong Ground. These discussions are hosted on Dr. Brown’s podcast Dare to Lead.

Participants will receive a copy of the book as a way to support further discussion around topics that are brought up. (This book is very accessible and the chapters are short!)

  • Each week we will listen to 1-2 conversations (podcasts) about topics from Strong Ground
  • We will then meet for an hour to discuss the main ideas, share insights, stories, ask questions, exchange resources etc.
  • If you attend four of the five sessions and complete a reflection activity you will receive a CFDE Leadership Academy Certificate of Completion.

The group will meet on the following Wednesdays from 11:15 am - 12:15 pm in the CFDE:

  • March 18th
  • March 25th
  • April 1st
  • April 8th
  • April 15th

Lawn Bowling with Leaders

A goal of the CFDE Leadership Academy is to create space for faculty to learn from one another. What better way to learn from a leader than to play bocce with them? Lawn Bowling with Leaders invites faculty to join another faculty leader for an hour of fun and learn about their career path, what brings them joy, and more! We hope this brings a little bit of fun, fresh air, and conversation for all of us.

Upcoming Games

Spring games will be scheduled soon!

Sounds fun! Do I need to know how to play bocce?

No! Bocce is an easy yard game where all you have to do is roll a bigger ball at a smaller ball. You will play as a team, so no pressure!

What if it rains? It might be hard to hold an umbrella and roll a ball…

If it rains will meet in the CFDE (Woodruff 216) for an indoor game and a hot beverage.

Ok great, I’m in! How do I sign up?

Use the Trumba links below to sign up. Space is limited, so please ensure that you will be able to make the game before reserving a spot. Once the spots a full a waitlist will be created. If something changes and you are no longer able to come, please cancel your reservation so that someone from the waitlist can take your spot.

Anyone who attends one of the sessions will be invited to a networking event to continue to discuss these ideas in an informal setting and chat with faculty in various leadership positions at Emory.
